BIOSECURITY & DISEASE TESTING
I test for CAE with blood tests. That is my biggest concern, as I bottle feed all of my goat kids. I do pool the dam's milk, so I want to be sure no one is spreading disease. I test any suspicious abscesses for CL. I've tested 2 in 10 years and both were negative. I also test for Johnes using pooled fecal PCR's. The greatest risk of contracting Johnes is when the goats are babies. We pull kids at 24 hours old (after they've had their colostrum) and raise them separated from the adult goats. I take biosecurity precautions. If you've been to my farm, it's only been to pick up an animal you are purchasing. I don't allow farm visits for biosecurity reasons and anyone that does visit is not allowed into the goat areas.
My customers can trust that they are getting healthy goats!
